1 cup butter

Weights are averages from USDA data; your ingredients and how you fill the cup can differ. For baking, a kitchen scale is the most accurate.

How the Recipe Scaler works

Paste or type the ingredient lines, one per line (“1 1/2 cups flour”, “2 tbsp butter”, “3 eggs”), then choose how much: by servings (the recipe makes 4 and you need 6, so × 1.5) or by a factor (× 2, × 1/2). Every amount is multiplied and written back as something you can measure.
Lines without an amount at the start (“salt to taste”, headings) are copied as they are, and ranges like “2-3 cloves” are scaled at both ends. With Grams & ml, cups and spoons of a known ingredient become grams (milk and oil become ml) using USDA weights; with US cups, grams become cups and spoons.
Examples: half of 1/3 cup oil is 1/6 cup, written as 2 tbsp + 2 tsp; 3/4 cup sugar × 2 = 1 1/2 cups; 3 eggs × 1/2 = 1 1/2 eggs; 1 cup flour in grams = 125 g.

Frequently asked questions

How do I halve a recipe that uses 1/3 cup?

Half of 1/3 cup is 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons (1/3 cup is 5 tbsp + 1 tsp).

How do I scale a recipe from 4 to 6 servings?

Multiply every amount by 6 ÷ 4 = 1.5: 1 cup becomes 1 1/2 cups, 2 tbsp becomes 3 tbsp, and 2 eggs become 3 eggs.

What do I do with half an egg?

Beat one egg and use half of it. A large egg is about 50 g (USDA), so half is 25 g, about 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons of beaten egg.

Can it turn a recipe in grams into cups?

Yes: choose US cups, and grams of a known ingredient become cups and spoons (200 g sugar → 1 cup). Grams of something it doesn’t know become ounces.
