How the Cooking Measurement Converter works
Type an amount, pick its unit, and see it in every other kitchen unit at once. The first line is the amount the way you would measure it: cups in quarters and thirds, whole tablespoons and teaspoons in eighths. So 0.8 cup reads 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp instead of a decimal no measuring cup shows.
US measures: 1 cup = 8 fl oz = 16 tbsp = 48 tsp = 236.6 ml; 1 tbsp = 3 tsp = 14.8 ml; 1 pint = 2 cups, 1 quart = 4 cups, 1 gallon = 16 cups = 3.785 L. The metric cup is 250 ml with a 15 ml tablespoon; Australia uses a 20 ml tablespoon.
Example: 1/4 cup = 4 tbsp = 12 tsp = 2 fl oz = 59.1 ml. Half of 1/3 cup is 1/6 cup = 2 2/3 tbsp, which you measure as 2 tbsp + 2 tsp.
Frequently asked questions
How many tablespoons are in a cup?
16 tablespoons are in a US cup (1 tbsp = 1/16 cup). So 1/2 cup = 8 tbsp, 1/3 cup = 5 tbsp + 1 tsp, 1/4 cup = 4 tbsp and 1/8 cup = 2 tbsp.
How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?
3 teaspoons are in a US tablespoon, so 1/2 tbsp = 1 1/2 tsp. An Australian tablespoon is 20 ml, which is 4 teaspoons.
How many ml is a cup?
A US cup is 236.6 ml (nutrition labels round it to 240 ml). A metric cup is 250 ml. 1/2 US cup = 118.3 ml and 1/4 cup = 59.1 ml.
How many fluid ounces are in a cup?
A US cup holds 8 fluid ounces. Fluid ounces measure volume, not weight: how many ounces a cup of something weighs depends on the ingredient (use the cups to grams converter for that).
How many cups are in a quart and in a gallon?
4 cups are in a US quart, 16 cups in a US gallon and 2 cups in a pint. A UK (imperial) pint is 568 ml, about 2.4 US cups.
